Most of you must have had ads following your user journey and it works… As a marketer, it’s always good to learn about new techniques and not miss out on the opportunity to build stronger relationships with your customers and drive conversions.

We are at the SMX event in the Famous Chelsea Football Club in one of the most modern conference centres in London and the first panelist on stage is Guy Levine, CEO, Return On Digital  telling us that retargeting is a simple way to connect with users based on their past interactions with your website and the benefits of it being to increase the reach of your ads, being able to run dynamic personalized ads with a great CTR.

Lisa Williams, President, MEDIA forte marketing also gives us some useful retargeting tips:

Understand what “re”means: reread, rewrite, relearn. All imply “do it better”. Only 3 % of visitors converts after the 1st time seeing you site and 97 % visitors don’t convert so there is a huge opportunity to convert visitors by remarketing your site, with a new message or a new offer

Insiders Tips for #Social and #SEO Success from #SMX London

Got up two mornings in a row at 6AM and it’s taken two strong coffees to appreciate that the sun is shining today. However (and how nerdy have I become!?) the first SMX session ‘Social shares, the new link building’ woke me up and cheered me up to no end. There must be many of you -tucked away in an office somewhere- that are the only one in their office dealing with PPC, SEO or social. Isn’t it nice to meet colleagues that a similar job to you at a conference discuss?

If you didn’t see last month’s post on enhancements to AdIntellignece for API users, there was some info in there about an action you’ll need to take before this month is out.  As we’ve hit the half-way mark in May, now is probably a good time to post this quick reminder:

How to Seduce Seven Types of Searchers with Great #PPC Ad Copy #SMX

Welcome to London: it is pouring with rain and the tube doesn’t work. When the district line does reluctantly grinds to a halt at Fulham Broadway it only takes minutes to reach SMX London which is taking place in the home of Chelsea Football Club, Stamford Bridge. Luckily my lack of knowledge of the offsite rule doesn’t matter today as we’re in the company of international search specialists instead off blue-shirted sportsmen.

The first session we attend to cover with a blog post is ‘Winning the click, creating great paid search ads’. If you like writing composing search ads (or tweets!) could be seen as the ultimate challenge. Here are some tips on how to write compelling ad copy so alluring one has to click!

We’re in the home of targeting today, albeit of a different kind

Great PPC ad copy basics

Use tried and tested phrases such as ‘official site’ (only when you are) and ‘ free delivery’ Think about what makes your business unique and reflect this in your ad copy. Make sure your keywords are mentioned in the ad text or title (you can try dynamic text). This one may sound odd:

SMX London 2012: Complying and Coping In the New World of Regulated Global Marketing Environment

The EU’s cookie and tracking legislation is an onerous policy that limits online marketing. US lawmakers are contemplating sweeping changes to intellectual property law that will stifle access and the flow of information. What’s a marketer to do? In this session, our panelists provided marketers some tips on how to comply to new and proposed regulations that limit relationships with your online customers and users.

Our first panelist, Andy Atkins-Krueger, Group CEO, WebCertain, starts the session by telling the audience that it’s no longer a free world with the new EU directive. A challenge is also that the EU directive is going to be implemented in different ways in Europe. In Germany for example, the EU directive hasn’t been implemented yet whereas in France it’s more strict for companies to use an opt-in. So what to do? According to Andy, you should start by doing something that shows that you tried to ask user consent and make sure your cookies are not intrusive. Then you should audit you site and identify the countries where you want to implement targeting and work to the lowest common denominator.

Next on stage is Anthony Haney, Director, 21 Interactive

Le président Abraham Lincoln a dit : « On peut tromper une partie du peuple tout le temps et tout le peuple une partie du temps, mais on ne peut pas tromper tout le peuple tout le temps ». Cela se vérifie en particulier sur le marché de la publicité en ligne dans sa globalité ;
