AddAccount is for Internal Use Only

Hello Resellers

Just want to let you know that we removed the AddAccount operation from the MSDN documentation. The AddAccount operation is meant for internal use only. Calling AddAccount is not supported. Instead of calling AddAccount to add multiple accounts to a customer, you should call the SignupCustomer operation for each account that you need to add. Sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause.

If AddAccount is something that you’d like to use, please let us know the scenario in which you’d use it.

Thanks

You Asked for It: Microsoft Advertising adCenter API Access for All!

Until recently, access to the Microsoft Advertising adCenter Application Programming Interface (API) has been restricted to a small set of invitation-only pilot customers that met stringent criteria.

Now, advertisers of all shapes and sizes can request API access.

If you’re not familiar with managing PPC campaigns via an API, the adCenter API would enable you to programmatically access Microsoft adCenter to manage your accounts, campaigns, ad groups, keywords, and ads. By building your own custom application that can “talk” to adCenter, you can efficiently manage large volumes of account and campaign transactions as bulk operations. The adCenter API can help you improve your return on investment by making campaign management easier, more efficient, and potentially less expensive.

More specifically, the adCenter API can help you:

• Create and manage campaigns, ad groups, keywords, and ads for large numbers of accounts.

• Retrieve adCenter business intelligence data for one or many accounts.

• Manage campaigns by revising budgets, targeting ad groups, updating bids, pausing ads, etc.

• Remove existing campaigns, ad groups, keywords, and ads.

API users can develop an application to access the API

Scheduled Maintenance for Microsoft adCenter API and News About Quality Score Coming Soon

Today there were a couple of posts that went up on the adCenter Blog that I think are worth cross-posting here:

1.) Microsoft Advertising adCenter will be undergoing scheduled maintenance from 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. Pacific Time on Saturday, March 12.

Here’s what you need to know…

During this time, your ads will continue to serve, but you will be unable to make campaign updates via the UI, Desktop or API during the maintenance window. if you’re working on offline updates via the Desktop, you may upload them once the maintenance is complete. All reporting is expected to be up to date by March 13. We recommend that you rerun all your adCenter reports that include the downtime period, from 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. March 12.

If you have any questions, leave a comment below.

2.) Today at SMX West, Rathna Sharad announced that adCenter will soon incorporate Quality Scores to help you refine and imrpove your PPC campaigns’ effectiveness… for more detailed information and to ask questions about it in the comments section, visit Paul Corkery’s post on the adCenter Blog.

Thanks!

Tell Us What You Think about adCenter API; You Could Win an Xbox 360 with Kinect Prize Pack

At Dealer.com, we have had api access with the Resellers Role, for approximately 18 months.  We have had a growing business with Microsoft AdCenter and are managing approximately 1000 customers.  We drive constant adgroup creation and updates for all our customer car dealers as we respond to inventory and manufacturer’s incentives.    This is a lot of api traffic.

Here are my recommendations.

1) Most api calls involve lists of campaign objects.   api calls always rollback everything on fail.  This is a good design, but can give rise to some inconveniences when dealing with lists of objects. If one object fails,  I have to analyze the fails, but then I have to redrive the good objects back into the api.   It would be convenient to have had the 1st call proceed successfully on the objects that had no issue.

2) Latency between operations involving parent and child objects.  I recognize that MSN has a large server complex needs time to propagate changes.  However, this latency is a throughput inhibitor. Currently, the time delays need to be large  for consistent reliability.  A server affinity solution to keep an api user on the same MSN server would be a
